CLIFF SCHULMAN TO LEAD LOCAL PUBLIC ADVOCACY GROUP(ORLANDO, FL – January 31, 2008) Floridians for Smarter Growth (FSG) today announced that Cliff Schulman, an attorney in Greenberg Traurig’s Miami office, will join the fight against the so-called Hometown Democracy amendment as Chair of the campaign’s Local Public Advocacy Group. Mr. Schulman joins Neisen Kasdin, Simon Ferro and Stan Price, all recently appointed to FSG leadership slots in Miami-Dade.
“We are thrilled to have such an active member of the community lead our Local Public Advocacy Group,” said Mark Wilson, FSG Treasurer and Executive Vice President of the Florida Chamber of Commerce. “With Cliff on our Miami-Dade team, South Florida is virtually unwinnable for Hometown.”
“My ongoing concern for our local hospitals and other non-profit organizations drives my strong opposition to the amendment,” Mr. Schulman said.
“The Hometown Democracy plan would make it hard for hospitals and other non-profits to build new projects around the state when comprehensive plan amendments are needed,” Mr. Schulman explained. “Getting new facilities approved would mean funding expensive political campaigns.”
Mr. Schulman is an attorney with over 32 years of experience in the legal profession, specializing in environmental regulation, permitting, zoning, land use, and comprehensive planning. An active member of his community, Mr. Schulman is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Miami Law School and is Chairman of the Board of the Aventura Marketing Council. He is also a Founder of Mt. Sinai Hospital. Mr. Schulman is a frequent lecturer at colleges and law schools on environment and land use topics.
