My 6-year-old grandson asked what proposed state constitutional Amendment 4 was as he watched me put a sign in my yard. I tried to explain it to him in terms he could understand.
"Who is in charge in your classroom?" I asked.
"The teacher," he replied.
"If the teacher has a rule, can you ask her to change it?"
"Yes, I think so," he replied.
I explained, "She can do so because she is in charge. Imagine if you asked her to change a rule and she said she had to call all the parents to vote on it before she could change the rule. How would that work?" I asked.
He replied, "That is dumb, that would never work! It would take too long."
Out of the mouth of babes!
