STATEMENT BY MARK WILSON FOR FLORIDIANS FOR SMARTER GROWTH
"Tonight it is clear: Hometown Democracy fell short again and did not submit enough signed petitions to qualify for a 2008 vote. This marks the third time the "Vote on Everything" amendment failed to make the ballot. Florida once again dodged a bullet, but voters will likely see one more ricochet because the bullet will be on the ballot in 2010.
Seven months ago, the alarming likelihood Hometown Democracy was headed for the 2008 ballot urged concerned business and community leaders across Florida to form Floridians for Smarter Growth, the statewide campaign to defeat the amendment. Today, we're an alliance of 101 Florida organizations, 27 county committees, 250 executive committee members and hundreds of grassroots volunteers.
FSG is fully armed statewide and leading the fight - and we'll expand this effort to confront the "Vote on Everything" proposal every day to November 2010."
