BRADENTON – If you have yet to attend a debate about Amendment 4, you have another opportunity.
At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Federation of Manatee County Community Associations and the Web sites The American Reporter and The Bradenton Times will sponsor the forum at the Central Library, 1301 Barcarrota Blvd.
Several County Commission candidates are expected to attend.
The proposed amendment to the state constitution will be on the Nov. 2 ballot. It requires changes to local comprehensive land use plans to be approved by the voters.
Advocates of what has been called the Florida Hometown Democracy amendment says it could have curtailed recent overdevelopment and would limit developers’ influence on politicians. Opponents say it will overwhelm electorates with all updates and revisions to comp plans and politicize land use decisions.
