PLF will host live Web chat on Florida’s Amendment 4, Friday, October 22, 2010
PLF is still seeking a representative of the “Yes” side to participate!
STUART, FL; October 15, 2010: Next Friday, October 22, at 12:00 p.m. EDT, Pacific Legal Foundation will host an hour-long, live Web chat on Florida’s Amendment 4, a proposed change to the Florida Constitution. Although the language on the ballot seems fairly straightforward, PLF believes Florida voters should have an opportunity to hear both sides of the issue in order to be better informed before casting their vote.
Amendment 4 would amend the Florida Constitution to require a popular vote, by referendum, before a local government could adopt a new comprehensive land use plan, or amend an existing comprehensive land use plan. A comprehensive land use plan dictates to landowners whether and how they can use their properties.
Ryan Houck, Executive Director of Citizens for Lower Taxes and a Stronger Economy, and a prominent opponent of Amendment 4, will be available to answer your questions about this important amendment on the November ballot. Unfortunately, after several attempts to have the sponsors of Amendment 4—Florida Hometown Democracy—join the discussion, they refused to participate.
“We welcome and encourage any proponents of the amendment to join the Web chat, or to contact us in advance to see about being listed as a formal presenter along with Ryan Houck,” said Michael Stetson, PLF’s Director of Development for the Southeastern United States. Mr. Stetson is based in PLF’s Atlantic Center office, in Stuart, FL. He may be reached at (772) 781-7787, or by email.
Floridians with an interest in public affairs and property rights won’t want to miss this opportunity to learn more about Amendment 4 and how it could affect individuals, homeowners, and communities.
To receive a reminder email for the Web chat, and to join the Web chat on October 22, go to the Amendment 4 page on PLF’s website. PLF attorneys will moderate the discussion. You may post your questions during the Web chat.
