Union leader at forefront of Broward County opposition to Amendment 4.
(Orlando, FL - April 6, 2010) Citizens for Lower Taxes and a Stronger Economy (the "Vote No on 4" campaign) today continued its rollout of local leadership by announcing the campaign's Broward County Chairman. Frank Ortis, Mayor of Pembroke Pines, is a community, civic, and union leader dedicated to the cause of defeating Amendment 4. Today's announcement comes one week after the campaign released the names of its Palm Beach county co-chairs, David Levy--an environmental leader, and Brian Seymour--a business attorney.
"It is rare for union and business leaders to unite in opposition to an amendment," said the campaign's executive director, Ryan Houck. "But the threat of Amendment 4 transcends political boundaries and Mayor Ortis understands that this measure will cost Florida jobs. He is a strong addition to a diverse and growing team."
Frank Ortis (click here for bio) is the Mayor of Pembroke Pines, a past President of the Florida League of Cities, and currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Florida AFL-CIO. "Amendment 4 will devastate Florida's economy by costing hundreds of thousands of jobs and driving the unemployment rate even higher. Worse still, Florida's working families and small businesses will bear the weight of this burden," said Ortis.
Citizens for Lower Taxes and a Stronger Economy (the "Vote No on 4" campaign) is an umbrella organization that leads opposition to Amendment 4. Mayor Ortis also serves on the campaign's statewide Board of Directors, which includes former National League of Cities President, Clarence Anthony and Florida Chamber of Commerce President, Mark Wilson. To date, more than 240 organizations throughout Florida have opposed Amendment 4; more join the fight every day.
