Amendment 4 gets kettle boiling at local Tea Party

The kettle was boiling last week when the Beaches chapter of the First Coast Tea Party met at the Neptune Beach Library to discuss Amendment 4 and hear from Angie’s Sub owner Ed Malin, who caught national media attention after putting a political message on the sign above his business. Two Jacksonville City Council members, Daniel Davis and Art Graham, spoke against Amendment 4 at the meeting, telling attendees it would be a disaster for Florida.

To the Florida Chamber of Commerce, Amendment 4 is a job killer that would cripple the state's building industry and make the current recession permanent. To Florida Hometown Democracy, the political action committee behind Amendment 4, it was the building industry that contributed to the state's recession with years of overbuilding that resulted in hundreds of thousands of vacant homes and plummeting property values.

This November, voters will be faced with a number of tough decisions at the ballot box. Fortunately, one of the most important decisions should also be the easiest. Amendment 4, a “Vote on Everything” proposal, would kill jobs, raise taxes, and lead to endless litigation at taxpayer expense.

Diverse coalition of Bay area leaders spearhead opposition to Amendment 4. (Orlando, FL - April 27, 2010) Citizens for Lower Taxes and a Stronger Economy (the "Vote No on 4" campaign) today announced the campaign’s Tampa Bay Co-Chairs. The Bay area team includes former state representative Bob Henriquez - former Vice-Chair of the Democratic Party of Florida; St. Petersburg City Councilman Karl Nurse - President of Pinellas Living Green, Inc.; and Stephanie Oddo - a City Commissioner in Belleair, Florida. Today's announcement comes one week after the campaign released the name of its Treasure Coast Chairman, Toby Overdorf, an environmental activist and small business owner.

Video focuses on St. Pete Beach, the Amendment 4 'test case' (Orlando, FL - April 22, 2010) Citizens for Lower Taxes and a Stronger Economy (the "Vote NO on Amendment 4" campaign) today released a second web-video focusing on St. Pete Beach, the small Florida town that adopted a local version of Amendment 4 in 2006 to disastrous consequences. (Orlando, FL - March 30, 2010) Citizens for Lower Taxes and a Stronger Economy (the "Vote No on 4" campaign) today began rolling out its local leadership team by announcing the campaign's Palm Beach County co-chairs. David Levy-- Mayor, Democrat, and environmental leader--and Brian Seymour-- attorney, Republican, and business advocate--often find themselves on different sides of the aisle. However, the pair is working together to defeat Amendment 4 in Palm Beach County.
