Ms. Blackner: Since adopting a Hometown Democracy-style measure requiring referenda on any comprehensive plan amendments, St. Pete Beach residents have suffered through endless legal battles and countless delays at taxpayer expense. While the bills mounted, nothing got done.

HOMETOWN DEMOCRACY FAILS 2008 BALLOT QUALIFICATION

On Friday night, February 1st, the Florida Division of Elections announced the Hometown Democracy amendment had not qualified for the 2008 ballot. This was a successful end to another battle in a war to protect Florida's unique quality-of-life. Floridians for Smarter Growth will remain vigilant and continue to take our message to every Florida voter: Hometown Democracy is bad for hometowns and worse for Democracy.

CLIFF SCHULMAN TO LEAD LOCAL PUBLIC ADVOCACY GROUP

(ORLANDO, FL – January 31, 2008) Floridians for Smarter Growth (FSG) today announced that Cliff Schulman, an attorney in Greenberg Traurig’s Miami office, will join the fight against the so-called Hometown Democracy amendment as Chair of the campaign’s Local Public Advocacy Group. Mr. Schulman joins Neisen Kasdin, Simon Ferro and Stan Price, all recently appointed to FSG leadership slots in Miami-Dade.

Attorney Stan Price, also from Miami-Dade, will Chair the FSG Local Policy Council.
