It's just halftime for Hometown Democracy, and Floridians are only up by three. But the anti-growth amendment will not be on the 2008 ballot, due in no small part to your support, time and effort. As executive director of Floridians for Smarter Growth, I'm writing to thank you for backing our battle to defeat the paid signature drive for the "Vote on Everything" amendment.

"Tonight it is clear: Hometown Democracy fell short again and did not submit enough signed petitions to qualify for a 2008 vote. This marks the third time the "Vote on Everything" amendment failed to make the ballot. Florida once again dodged a bullet, but voters will likely see one more ricochet because the bullet will be on the ballot in 2010.

(ORLANDO, FL – October 25, 2007) Floridians for Smarter Growth (FSG) today announced that Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank Ortis will lead the fight against the so-called Hometown Democracy amendment as the group’s General Chairperson for Broward County. This is the eighth appointment announced by the campaign to defeat the proposed amendment to the Florida constitution.
“Mayor Ortis is a well-known and well-respected advocate for Florida’s working families,” said Mark Wilson, FSG Treasurer and executive vice president of the Florida Chamber of Commerce. “His strong background in public service also makes him the perfect person to lead our campaign in Broward County.”
